Welcome

to the

Robert Henri Museum and Art Gallery

One of America's greatest artists and art instructors

Welcome to the Robert Henri Museum and Art Gallery located in Cozad, Nebraska.

Robert Henri (formerly Robert Henry Cozad) was one of America's greatest artists and one of its most important art instructors. In our environmentally controlled gallery, built in 2014, you will find the largest collection of Henri’s work on display, or attributed to him, than anywhere else in this country. We have a major exhibit entitled Through My Own Language: Robert Henri and His Portraits, Landscapes and Sketches which includes a number of his paintings that we either own and have been loaned to us by patrons, many of his sketches along with personal items including letters and props. There are also examples of the work of some of his students including Margery Ryerson, Marjorie Organ Henri, Leon Kroll and Ernest Fiene.

Next to the current gallery is the Robert Henri Museum which is located in the boyhood home of Henri and includes a number of family pieces on display. It was restored in the mid-1980s. The museum includes exhibits, period furnished rooms, a gallery and a gift shop. It is also where many of the museum's programs take place including our receptions for our Artists in Residence, Artists of the Month, the Robert Henri Arts Festival, and our Holiday at the Henri program along with privately sponsored events. The museum has an introductory exhibit entitled Robert Henri: From the 100th Meridian to International Fame which reveals the important Nebraska legacy of the famed artist along with his family and local history. We have two new exhibits - Painters of A New Century and Passing on the Art Spirit that look at his career and his students. They opened in 2023 and the design and fabrication were funded by the generosity of the Peter Kiewit Foundation.

The museum continues with its mission of offering the most current research on Henri's living in Nebraska. In 2023 it published a new history entitled Nebraska Sign-posts: Robert Henri's Years on the Great Plains. To order it go to our website's Gift Shop.

Most importantly, we are embarking on a new chapter in the museum's history as we begin construction of a new six thousand square foot gallery. Construction is now underway and our building should be finished early next year.  You can find out more about it by going to our New Gallery page and by following the regular updates on our Facebook page. â€‹â€‹

Our web page provides information about our programs, activities, collection, and archives. You can keep up to date about our museum's regular activities by going to our Facebook page or signing up for our digital newsletter. You can find about both by going to our Join and Support pages.  We look forward to visiting with you at our museum and sharing our wonderful collection with you.
