What's new at the Henri?

JUNE 1, 2013 -    OPENING DAY – SATURDAY – ALL DAY !!! COME AND SAY HELLO TO JAN PATTERSON, DELLA HENDRICKS, CAROLINE GAUDREAULT (our summer intern from 2011) AND WHOEVER ELSE STOPS IN TO GREET YOU.

The 2012 season ended with a very successful Holiday @ the Henri and Annual Tour of Homes on November 30 and December 1st; we still use the museum for special meetings. The weather was perfect, the decorations more magical than ever and the turnout was wonderful even considering all the other events scheduled in Cozad the same night. The Henri Board of Directors did themselves proud and all the individuals and merchants who decorated every room in the Henri created something out of a magical story.

The 2013 begins June 1, 2013 and starts off with a bang. We’re going to have an Artist-in-Residence by the name of CALEB GROVES, a college student from Hasting College who will graduate in 2014. One of the class/workshops will most likely be in “wire bending” which should be pretty interesting. He’lll hold classes with different age groups, display his or her own works, assist around the museum and for a time, become a part of the art community of the Cozad community. Another part of this program is still in the works and will involve Ann Matzke (Children’s Librarian) – it will be special so just keep on watching this website for further details and watch FB here and at the Wilson Library FB site.

Once again we’ll be having the art calendar contest – the committee will meet for the first time in April and start laying plans earlier than last year with many changes in the quality of the calendar and the contributors. Anyone interested in buying the 2012 calendar may do so for $6.00. Seeing what our Cozad schools produce is worth the price.

Our line-up for the upstairs visiting artist gallery is still complete.
JUNE:    Someone who hasn’t exhibited at the museum in quite a while – SUSAN HART. She’s a renowned artist who is Cozad-based.
JULY: This will be up to whatever our artist-in-residence decides. Perhaps Caleb will show off his work, perhaps the work of students. We’ll let him decide.
AUGUST: KJELL CRONN. He began forming a notable college art career at the University of Kansas, and then the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, winning the Howard Award Fellowship as well as the Vreelend Award Fellowship, and the Hazel V. Emely Award Fellowship. Next, to the San Francisco Art Institute, for the terminal degree in studio art, the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) which he earned in 1996.
SEPTEMBER: NICOLE ROWE FOWLER, formerly of Cozad and now a resident of Centennial, CO will exhibit. Check a little later for her photo and bio.

Henri’s birthday will be an attempt (emphasis on “attempt”) to last most of the entire week of his birthday (June 24th) and we’d like to plan some wonderful events involving the whole community so anyone with ideas – regardless of the age of participants - of events with the community in mind, please contact any board member or Jan Patterson, Executive Director either at 308-784-4154 (after the season starts) or 308-325-2119. Let’s turn back the clock and re-play some of the old events that may have happened in the 1800’s – use your imaginations!

We’re in need of docents. We want people who really want to learn about this man who has put Cozad on the map in the art world. We’re willing to train anyone who really wants to contribute and this could include students in the art classes in the high school. Kent Ross has turned out some amazing artists (with natural talent of course) and if they would like to broaden their experience by volunteering this summer, please contact Jan. You’d be doing us a huge favor.

We’ll again, probably in July, co-host Movie Night under the Stars with the Wilson Public Library so Laurie Yocom will be coming up with another wonderful family-oriented movie so the whole family can enjoy themselves behind the Henri Museum in the beautiful old courtyard. We’ll let you know the movie, the night and all details when we have them.

Quilts around the Block will take our attention in August with Author/Speaker Stephanie Grace Whitson (a series of her books are available at the library). The Henri will host her the Friday of August 16 so keep watch of FB and Twitter.

Need more? Well, just keep on watching the website and FB and we’ll try to elaborate.

You can reserve the museum for special events such as concerts, dinners, celebrations and small parties during the open season (there are limitations on celebrations and small parties due to the size of the kitchen etc.

To make reservations contact the museum at 308-784-4154 or 308-325-2119
